A delegation from Cybernetica, led by CEO Michael Buckland, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister of ICT and Post to discuss the future of digital transformation in St. Kitts and Nevis. During the meeting, the Minister outlined his vision for the nation to become a regional leader in technology, setting a benchmark for other countries to follow. He emphasized the importance of aligning digital advancements with the country’s long-term goals and highlighted Cybernetica’s potential role in driving this transformation.

Recognizing Cybernetica’s extensive experience in developing world-class digital solutions, the Minister expressed confidence in the company’s ability to deliver a groundbreaking initiative. He underscored the high expectations for the collaboration, anticipating significant advancements in the nation’s digital infrastructure.

Michael Buckland reaffirmed Cybernetica’s commitment to innovation, sharing insights into the company’s 25-year track record of excellence. He highlighted its instrumental role in developing Estonia’s renowned e-governance systems, which have become global models for digital transformation. Buckland emphasized Cybernetica’s readiness to bring that level of expertise to St. Kitts and Nevis.

As part of their engagement, the Cybernetica team will participate in discussions with key stakeholders over five days. These include representatives from the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of ICT and Post, the ISPS, the Telecommunications Department, the Legal Department, and the business and financial sectors. These meetings aim to foster collaboration and ensure a strategic approach to the nation’s digital evolution.

Among those present for the courtesy visit were Permanent Secretary Cherylean Pemberton, Head of Digital Transformation Nigel Carty, Director of ICT Camille Bruno-Audain, Program Manager of the Digital Transformation Unit Eric Haynes, E-Government Coordinator Ophelia Blanchard, and other officers from the Department of ICT.

As Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and Posts, she has been instrumental in driving key initiatives that have significantly advanced the digital agenda in St Kitts and Nevis. Her appointment to the CTO Executive Committee underscores the critical role she will play in shaping the future of ICT development across the Commonwealth.

Her appointment was announced during the successful 2024 Digital Week in London. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and technology experts from across the Commonwealth.

The CTO Executive Committee plays a crucial role in guiding the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring that the needs and priorities of member states are addressed. With Mrs. Pemberton’s addition, the Council is further strengthened in its capacity to drive its digital transformation agenda.

The Executive Committee comprises 7 members and the CTO Secretary General

The functions of the Executive Committee include:

a) make recommendations to the Council concerning the CTO’s strategies and policies;

b) consider the draft Budget, Annual Report and strategic plan before submission to the Council;

c) provide guidance to the Secretary General on the development and management of programme activities, the development of work with ICT Sector Members, Academia Members, other partners and on any other matters where it considers such guidance may be useful;

d) conduct, on behalf of the Council, the process to select a candidate for appointment as the Secretary General and recommend to Council a candidate for appointment as Secretary General, as and when required;

e) consider and, if deemed appropriate to recommend to Council, any proposals for the CTO to become an investor in a venture or to use the name of the CTO or any part thereof for another venture, which may create a significant obligation on the CTO;

In this workshop, Taiwan’s policies on information security, its experiences in strengthening data protection against evolving cyber threats and risks, as well as its views on cybersecurity trends will be shared.

The objectives to be derived include increased awareness on information security, identification of the logic and attack patterns of threats to the internet security structure, and the sharing of experiences on cybersecurity technology and strengthening participants’ resilience to cyber-attacks.

Officers would also be exposed to various information security policies, promotion strategies, and technologies for promoting information and communication safety. The knowledge from this workshop would help to improve our reporting systems and response capacity to cyber-attacks or threats and our efficiency in the deployment of various cyber security protection mechanisms for a safe networking environment.

The week of activities celebrates the International Girls in ICT Day, which takes place on April 22, this year. The day was established by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and is celebrating its 10^th anniversary.

The theme for this year is Connecting Goals; Creating Brighter Futures.

A release from the local Ministry of ICT notes that by hosting the week of activities, “We aim to engage the community and promote collaboration through partnership. In doing so, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis will be positioned to take full advantage of the digital economy in the 21^st century with a prepared workforce.”

The scheduled activities were strategically chosen to promote areas in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

The weeks opens with Live Dialogues on Thursday, April 22: Girls Learn from Women Influencers in ICT. On Monday, April 26, the focus is on Graphic Design: Girls in ICT Logo Design. On Tuesday, April 27, Interacting Vlogging explores How Does ICT Affect my Life. On Wednesday, April 28, the exciting field of Robotics: promotes Girls Can Do Robotics. The final day features Social Media: Girls in ICT Tic Tok Challenge on Friday, April 29.
